Africa SMMEs Development Trust on Digital Design

What is Africa's SMMEs Trust?
Africa's SMMEs Trust is a specialized organization dedicated to mobilizing, organizing, and scaling African Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) through strategic interventions across four pillars: activation, scaling, fueling, and sustainability of value chains.
This means our organization's assets and resources are legally protected to ensure they are used exclusively for our mission of supporting African SMMEs. They cannot be diverted for private gain, ensuring long-term focus on public benefit.
We operate through a combination of development partnerships, donor funding aligned with our transparent governance framework, and strategic collaborations with public and private sector entities committed to African economic development.
Activation involves organizing fragmented SMMEs into cohesive industry clusters or value chains. This collective organization gives them enhanced bargaining power, improves efficiency, and creates a unified voice for policy engagement.
Through our SMME & Value Chain Development pillar, we focus on integrating SMMEs into processing and manufacturing stages rather than just raw material export. This includes technical support, market access strategies, and capacity building for higher-value activities.
We connect organized SMME value chains with diverse capital sources including venture capital, private equity, impact investment, and development finance instruments tailored to different growth stages and sectors.
We have flagship programs including the Africa Private Sector Economic Renaissance Programme (APSERP) with specific initiatives like Lesotho Private Sector Renaissance 2026. Our model is designed for pan-African application, with rollout prioritized based on partnership opportunities and strategic impact.
Engagement typically begins through our sector aggregation programs or value chain development initiatives. We recommend monitoring our events schedule for regional forums or contacting us through our partnerships department for specific opportunities.
Our model focuses on creating sustainable ecosystems rather than direct charges to individual SMMEs. Program access is typically facilitated through partnerships, consortium arrangements, or development funding that covers program implementation costs.
We track metrics including: number of SMMEs organized into formal clusters, increase in value-added activities, investment capital mobilized, policy improvements influenced, and job creation across supported value chains.
Yes. We actively seek partnerships with institutions aligned with our mission. Our transparent governance framework and focus on structured public-private dialogue create a credible platform for effective collaboration.
Our integrated four-phase model (Activation-Scaling-Fueling-Sustainability) creates a complete ecosystem development approach rather than isolated interventions. We emphasize collective organization first, then value addition, then investment, all within a strong governance framework.
Please visit our [Events Schedules] page for the latest forums, workshops, and investment roundtables. Major events like the Lesotho SADC SMMEs Regional Value Chain & Investment Forum are announced there.
For general inquiries, please use our [Ask Question?] form. For partnership or program-specific questions, we recommend checking our [Our Team?] page for appropriate contact points once it is populated with our team information.
